Openreach to use fibre sensing to detect nearby water leaks

News Two pilot projects will see Openreach’s fibre network turn into real-time leak detection grid The UK’s largest fibre network operator, Openreach, has announced a pair of trials with water companies and tech partners, aiming to use their network to quickly identify costly leaks. In the first trial, in partnership with Arcadis, Thames Water, and Cadent, Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) technology from FiberSense will be used to pinpoint leaks in both water and gas pipes.

BSNL Activates Nationwide Network-Level Anti-Spam Protection for Mobile Users

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited ( BSNL ) has announced the nationwide roll-out of its network-side anti-spam and anti-smishing protection for mobile customers. The system blocks suspicious and phishing URLs in SMS messages at the network edge, ensuring malicious links are not delivered to users. Legitimate OTPs, banking alerts and government notifications will continue to be delivered in compliance with TRAI’s DLT/UCC framework.

GCI Pays Small Fee to Settle with FCC Over Submarine Cable License Lapse

WASHINGTON, August 14, 2025 – GCI, an Alaska-based telecommunications company under CEO and co-founder Ronald Duncan, has agreed to pay a $10,000 settlement to the Federal Communications Commission to close the agency’s investigation into its failure to renew a submarine cable license.  The FCC’s Enforcement Bureau launched the probe after discovering GCI may have violated Section 34 of the 1921 Cable Landing License Act and Section 1.767 of the FCC’s rules.
